MAXIMUS SPENDS $10 MILLION ON FLEET OVERHAUL
Abu Dhabi, 24 July 2008 - Maximus Air Cargo, the Abu Dhabi-headquartered specialist ‘heavy-lifter’ of the aviation industry is undertaking a $10 million overhaul of its Ilyushin fleet – extending their operating lifespan initially by seven years. The three IL76TD freighters were produced in 1992 and acquired by Maximus in 2005. The carrier bought three additional D-130 KP-2 engines from NPO Saturn, Russia, a year later. The overhaul and upgrade programme is being undertaken with Aviazapchast in conjunction with the Ilyushin Design Bureau. One aircraft has already been completed at the Ryazan Plant 360 in the Russian Federation, work on the second is under way, and the third will fly to Russia in January. Each comprehensive overhaul takes six months to complete. “Safety is the first issue,” says Maximus president and chief executive Fathi Hilal Buhazza. “Our three aircraft are among the very few to be overhauled. Very rarely do any of the other IL76-TDs operating from many ex-Soviet countries receive the same care and attention”. “More restrictions have been placed by EU legislation on ageing aircraft on the grounds of safety and security. Given our substantial investment in life extending major overhaul programme, this only benefits the Maximus Air Cargo fleet and will continue to do so in the next seven years and beyond.” The IL76TDs have a 46-ton payload and have a fully laden range of 2,450 nautical miles. Aircraft in the Maximus fleet are customized for rear loading and have roof gantry cranes installed. They operate in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Their ability to accommodate outsize loads, together with the built-in overhead crane system, enables them to be loaded and unloaded to and from standard road haulage vehicles without the need for ground handling equipment. The Maximus IL76TD fleet is licensed under the Ukraine Air Alliance Air Operators Certificate, meeting all ICAO requirements and can be operated to Stage II acceptable airports worldwide. This type of aircraft is mainly used for operating humanitarian flights and commercial charters. “They have a very good track record and have enabled us to acquire a niche market share in world air cargo,” said Buhazza.

HIGH-FLYING MAXIMUS MAINTAINS UPWARD CURVE
Abu Dhabi, 08 July 2008 - Maximus Air Cargo, the Abu-Dhabi headquartered specialist ‘heavy-lifter’ of the airfreight world, recorded an almost five-fold increase in aircraft hours sold during the first half of 2008 compared to the same period last year. At the same time, ton kilometres flown grew 5.5 times, producing gross revenues 43 per cent ahead of target. “We are now on track to reach our target of US$100 million in sales during 2008,” says Maximus president and chief executive Fathi Hilal Buhazza. Flight hours for the period reached 3,685, up 487 per cent on the corresponding period, while ton kilometres rose 555 per cent to 154,700. Gross sales totalled $45.5 million, compared to $47.4 million for all of 2007. Highlights of the year to date include securing additional short and medium term contracts on both Airbus A300-600 aircraft – flying regular scheduled services on behalf of Etihad Airways, Air France and Sudan Airways – as well as concluding a formal cooperation agreement with the UAE Red Crescent Authority with Maximus appointed as exclusive partner for air relief support. Maximus was also voted Air Cargo Operator of the Year, at the 2008 Middle East Supply Chain And Transport Awards (SCATA). Maximus is the largest freighter-only air operator in the Middle East. With a staff of more than 130 aviation professionals, the company specialises in airlifting outsized cargo and wet leasing its own aircraft to other carriers. The company runs a fleet of eight all-cargo Antonov An-124-100, Airbus A300-600RF, Ilyushin IL-76TD, and Lockheed Hercules L382G aircraft operating across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia. As the exclusive air relief support partner for the UAE Red Crescent, it was one of the few international carriers able to bring supplies to cyclone-ravaged Burma, and also carried relief aid to China following the devastating earthquake there. Its two Lockheed Hercules L382Gs have been specially-upgraded to carry all kinds of super-heavy cargo. It is the only aircraft that can transport oversized and heavy cargo, drop goods from the air, and land on airstrips/ground of any kind, giving Maximus the advantage of being able to deliver to any location on this planet. The carrier is focusing on superior customer care when managing air transport requirements and logistics solutions for its clients that include royalty, governments, multinational companies, humanitarian and relief organisations. Maximus’ philosophy is rooted in offering its customers responsive, practical, and cost effective solutions which combine a personal approach with innovative customer service.
